This is a cabinet/stand for a Make-Up and Hair Styling head for a 7-year old girl. Her parents are friends of ours. Her mother asked me to make a table for the head – it attaches to a table using a c-clamp thingy (you can see the top of it in the photo). I could just make a 12” tall table and clamp the the to it….OH NO….I had to make a whole cabinet. The drawer on the left is large enough to store the head. The other two drawers are for her to store brushes, etc. I still need to finish it…can’t decide on paint or stain….
Stand/Cabinet finished.
I dyed it using red & white india ink to make pink and thinned it with alcholhol to give it the distressed look. It also has 5x coats of wipe on poly (7x on the top).
Wood is 1/2” birch ply and select pine. The drawer runners are made of maple.
The girl who will recieve this is named Mary Kate to I took the Mary Kay loggo and modified it to fit her name.

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve seen a head in a drawer…
Good work, great craftsmanship, well designed.

I was NOT going to say this, but since Stump already did…..........
That looks creepy.
It looks like you done a good job though.
I just went and read the text though.
Nice cabinet buddy.
I’m glad to know you made the cabinet and not the head.
I thought the project was the head.

What are you talking about William? I would NEVER say something like that! What kind of a person do you take me for? I am a true friend, and a true friend would NEVER call someone’s work “creepy”. You should be ashamed of yourself!
(I love being able to edit comments after the fact…. tee-hee-hee…)

When the friend dropped the head off at the house my wife and both daughters called it creepy. Actually the youngest one found it when she wondered what was in a bag a peaked inside…..and there was the head.
Since I moved it from the shop and into the house I had to store the head inside the drawer because it was creepy.

My child opening a bag with a head in it.
I could work with that.
I love messing with their heads.
Just to give examples,
I have one of my sons convinced I got him a disco barbie for Christmas.
And another one I have convince I am giving him art, in the form of a polished dog turd.

I went to a vocational school that taught Cosmetology, the students in that class walked around sometimes carrying those heads around with their books. It was quite a bit strange. I know a few of them would more then likely have loved to have something like this in class to store their stuff in, instead of their lockers.
This is a great idea and I am sure will be a well accepted gift.

I don’t really like the head in the drawer thing, but the unit as a whole is really nice.
I vote stain
