This is a Christmas present for my father-inlaw. I wanted to accent between the white oak and the cherry, so I cut a saw curf betwen them and filled it with black art sand and covered it with polyurithan. The poly. went down in to the sand and made a grout like look that I could fill and sand flat for a beautiful outline.

It’s absolutely a beautiful piece. The colors are great and the construction is great.

-- Nature created it, I just assemble it.

That’s awesome. Nice idea! I would have tried actual grout and ended up making a mess! haha. I cut out a bunch of pieces to make a chess board a while back, Mahogany, curly maple and walnut but never got to it. I guess it’s just making a checker designed cutting board huh? Nice board set!!

The Chess/Checker board turned out great, but talk about an elephant in the living room, I haven’t seen one of these folding game tables for years.
Great build on a very useful project.

Interesting idea for a chess board. Nice work, yet another idea for a project I will have to add to my long list.
