Here is the first project I made. I grew tired of all the cheap chipboard crap available within my budget and decided to make my own. I borrowed a circular saw and drilled pocket holes free-hand. It was made in my first shop (the driveway) over a couple saw horses. It is made of store-bought pine that frames a fibreboard panel. The staining is a technique I like to call ‘splash a bunch on and let soak in’. I haven’t tried this process since and now read labels with more thorough attention. The base of the cabinet was made to hold a standard curbside recycling bin. I made a few mistakes and learned a lot from this project (note the gap between the doors for example). Today the cabinet is in my daughter’s room. It’s been moved a few times and is still as strong as ever. Solid wood is very good :)

Rob,
This is a pretty good project given your lack of tools and experience. I wish my first project had turned out this good. I tried a corner cabinet and it ended up as a plant stand out on the deck.
Well done!!

Looks great yes ….and so functional ….
oh yes my first project …a Leslie cabinet with moving parts …for a Hammond organ …flew apart the first time i plugged it in. I knew right there that a bit more thinking was involved in woodworking than i had thought there was ….

Thanks for the comments guys. I’ll confess that the doors on this unit were initially going to run the entire height. Then I cut a piece over top the four door stiles and sliced right through them all. I liked the modification and now can’t really picture it differently. I kinda wish I’d thought of it in the first place.
