Don't throw away that worn out pepper mill !!! Recycle it into a spinning top.

When your pepper grinder quits, just strip off the outside, leaving the square center shaft and the round top. Yes, the square shaft works just fine in the the proverbial round hole. You need to file down the nut on top of the mill, since it has a large flat spot, so file it to a point.

It won’t spin with just your fingers, because it is a little heavy, so build a handle, and add a string. You don’t need to drill a hole in the shaft, you can just wrap the string onto itself, overlapped on the first wrap.

Voila, a one hour project.
