My labor of love, which still isn’t finished yet, I have several more planes and saws to add to the cabinet. The carcass and doors were built with through dovetails and the small drawers were built with half blind dovetails. The drawer fronts and accent wood for the tool holders is Bubinga, I chose it to match the handles on the Adria saws.

Very nice cabinet!
I am planning on building one in the near future. Was this your own design or from a plan?

This is a beautiful cabinet and you have a nice collection of hand tools to go in it. The cabinet and tools compliment each other well.
Well done.

Nice cabinet and nice collection of tools. I love the optimizism with the empty space for growth. This is one that I need to tackle as well.

Thank you all for the kind words and warm welcome.
I read several books, magazines and websites to get ideas from other people’s designs and then just incorporated those into this cabinet, that is strictly used for my hand tools. The other cabinet on the right is more for just general tools and stuff, it has a couple of moveable shelves and two box joint drawers. I will post more photos of the hand tool cabinet once I get the time to add more storage for the new planes and saws. And I have to say that building the cabinet was much more fun than getting the tools, though I do enjoy adding to my collection every now and then!

Great looking cabinet. I wish I had more hand tools to justify building one.

Now that’s the way to keep your neighbors from borrowing your Lie-Nielsen chisels. I’m just kidding, you certainly have a nice set of them. And hand saws and planes just to mention a few and what a nice place to keep them stored. I won’t tell anyone but it looks like you have room for more. Sorry, my mistake those are not Lie-Nielsen saws but Adria saws. Just checked out thier web site. They are just as nice if not better.

Bob, yup, good thing I am right handed :) it was one costly mistake that I don’t ever what to forget.
I just updated my project with another photo of more stuff including my new large tenon saw from Adria. I absolutely love those saws; they fit like a glove, and cut even better than I expected. I used to use my Japanese saws for dovetailing and tenons, but no more. I am also waiting to receive the new Wenzloff half back crosscut saw; the first one I received had a couple of problems, so I sent it back. The replacement should arrive sometime next week, can’t wait to try it out.

That’s about the size I was thinking 48” x 42” x 16” with 10” of cabinet depth in 6” for the door. I’ m trying to allow a little growing room for the future. I know my plane collection is going to grow, as well as everything else. I was thinking 6 drawers should work well. To only thing holding me back, is trying to trying to figure a way of locking it that looks good.
My wife and I have been married just over 17 years now. She has asked me many times why I can’t go more than a week without buying something? You never know what the bext project will need, right?

Ed, LOL! I know what you mean, I just ordered another block plane a few minutes ago!
I wish I had made the cabinet deeper, the shallow size limits how the planes are stored\displayed. I did make one goof in that I lined up the center drawer pulls right where both doors close, which prevented them from properly closing. So I had to trim down the center drawer pulls and retap them to get them mounted correctly. I also made sure the drawers were not to tall. My first cabinet has two deep drawers that just get everything piled on top of each other. So I made sure these drawers were small enough to prevent that from happening again. I had a lot of fun designing, building and then changing the design as I went.
