Baby rattle made for my new nephew. Piece of scrap walnut cut into figure eight shape. Small cedar branch split in half, split surface planed smooth, then cut into four pieces and glued onto walnut figure eight. No lathe work here, just a rasp and small drum sander chucked in the drill press. The shape is rather irregular err, I mean organic? Anyway I kinda like it. Quick bees wax finish rubbed in and ready to put under the Christmas tree

Nice work, what’d you fill it with?

To fill a baby rattle you can use rice. It will have a nice soft sound, but you will need a nice hardwood, sanded well on the inside

I filled this one with millet seed. It’s just what I had around, and they are small enough that if it broke open somehow they wouldn’t be much of a choking hazard. Not quite as loud as I would like it but I wanted to keep the cedar pretty thick so it wouldn’t have any chance of breaking.
