Cat 'Barn'

There’s a stray cat who hangs around our apartment but doesn’t trust us enough to come inside and warm up. A few times I’ve come out to find her asleep under my car or in one of the garbage cans. I figured that’s no way to spend the winter, especially considering how cold it gets around these parts so I did up this cozy ‘cat barn’ out of some wood I had lying around.

The base is made from pressure treated 2×4s so we don’t have to worry about it rotting anytime soon. I covered the p-t lumber in some 1×4 kiln dried pine so she wouldn’t poison herself if she decided to nibble on it. The barn is insulated with old dryer lint and a beat up pair of pyjama pants and it even has carpet!

It’s probably warmer in there than it is in our old apartment…

Very nice. Does dryer lint meet local fire codes for cat housing? :-)

Very nice.
I like cats. They amuse me because they are stupid. I have a stupid cat. At least it isn’t stupid enough to run away and become a stray….....but it’s pretty stupid none-the-less.

I like this idea. We have been using on old cooler turned on its side with a rug on the floor. This looks much nicer! Thanks for the idea!

I’ve had lot’s of dogs and lot’s of cats. I love both but I have found that you can own a dog but you can’t own a cat. The dog wants to please his master but the cat wants to please himself. Personally, I’ve found cats to be highly intelligent – at least the ones I’ve run across. I love to watch ‘em hunt. They can be highly independent creatures and I think they are quite amused by watching us human beings. Be careful – no telling how this might turn out.

However, I think that what you did was very kind. I have quite a soft spot for animals.

It’s very nice but not big enough. I took in a stray cat, he told his friends, now I have 6 ex-strays.

Have your say...
