Maple Madness

This box is maple crotch wood with an ambrosia maple top. I buy most of my lumber from a local lumberyard, and they have had a recent run of maple. It takes a bit of digging, but I have been able to find some beautifully unusual maple lately in the stacks.

If you are anywhere near NE Indiana, try Wibles Lumber. They have some really good stuff.

The box is 4 tall and 5×9. The lid is shaped with a medium grit curved top Holy Galahad grinding disk on a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder.

Man, I like the way you think outside the box :). I really like the curved detail of the base. Great work!!

Beautiful. And you did a great job of continuing the grain around the corners.

Very unusual and the wood is great. Good work.

You’ve turned some beautiful wood into a graceful and beautiful box. There is so much movement in the raw material, and the way you chose to put it all together. Very nice!

I love all the little details, from the grain continuity, to the curves, and sculpting, the to the miter keys.

What does the inside look like?
