This project was carved out of elm. It started out as just a horse bust but a little girl emerged as the carving progressed. I was carving this project in the back of one of our trucks while we were set up on a corner lot, selling the remaining art we have. The response for horses was so overwhelming. That all of Terri’s horse intarsia is gone and she proably will start getting consignment work. My horse didn’t last long. So I rushed to at least get a few pictures. Horses have so many muscle groups and anatomy shapes that I really didn’t get a chance to get to indepth. Well as always Lumberjocks have fun and keep on creating!!!!!!! I have also added some 40mm chisels to my arsenal and are looking at some 60mm. There is allot of wood to remove on these pieces. Good reason for some heavy duty chisels.

Thank You Monte. I really enjoy carving and I have to admit, getting to sell directly to the client and watch their expression on their face when they make their purchase. It always amazes me and it gives me more motivation to keep on improving. This piece didn’t make it to the art gallery and the client was so happy it didn’t. Thanks again Monte!!!

Hello a1Jim always a pleasure to hear from you!!! Jim I came by the theme because as I carve my mind is constantly looking for more images in the wood. My wife Terri is like one with any horse she comes in contact with. I just saw her as a little girl and the love only a gal can share with a horse!!! It’s a beautiful site!!!!

The mane and the grain, my friend, the mane and the grain.
It’s all sweet but the mane and the grain are pure Michael.
Keep on choppin’ and give that new iron a workout.
Always a treat to see your pieces of art.

Hi Paul hope your staying warm in Arizona. I am having fun experimenting with these larger chisels and amazed at all the combination of cuts you can achieve with just one. So it makes it possible to complete so much work with out changing chisels. Well thanks again Paul, always good to hear from you and your wisdom is appreciated!!!!!

luv2learn first off thank you! I see you live in a beautiful part of the country. Also by the look of that stringer your holding you visit the many wonderful creeks, rivers, ponds, and lakes you have there! Sounds to me you are one very creative individual. When you need a tool you just make it! Well thats just more than enough to motivate me to attack another stump to carve. Thanks again!

Nice capture! By ‘capture’, I mean that quality that evokes a feeling… sort of like Norman Rockwell was so good at. My wife’s employers are really into the ‘jumpers’ and I am wanting to do a carving from their old discarded wooden countertop….. but still building the nerve. Your piece has character!

-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)
