I made this coffee table for my daughter. She had seen the basic design at Pier One Imports. Painting something like this is quite foreign to me but it has a lot of advantages. I made her a blanket box previously that was painted. (ref http://lumberjocks.com/projects/57463 ) The multi-coloured picture is my SolidWorks 3-D model of the design. Legs and top rim are from solid maple. Remainder birch veneer plywood.
The dovetail drawer was my first use of my Leigh dovetail jig. The picture of the drawer opening shows the drawer slide concept. The drawer is supported on the 2 outside rails and guided at the centre. After applying a bit of wax it makes a really good, smooth slide.
