This project is about 8 weeks in the making and it is a Christmas gift for the companies owner. This was made from a picture they gave me. Relief carving is new to me along with shading with stain but I think it turned out looking pretty good. The panel is approx. 4’ x 3’ x 2” and made of basswood.

Wow, that is a great carving. So many wonderful details. Your carving has a great sense of depth. the carving of the bricks is really cool, again a wonderful sense of depth and perspective. I also like the pile of boards in the lighter colour. Are they carved as well or are they added on?

For the lumber pile I glued a 1/2” thick board on the 8/4 so it is raised above the panel. That is unique to relief carving.

Fantastic work!

I doubt I could do this well with my CNC Router – honest!

Keep up the great work!

Fantastic looking carving. Your shading turned out terrific.
This project must have needed two different kind of skills; 3D (for carving) and 2D (for shading) as well.
IMHO you have exceptional talent for both of them. Keep posting your beautiful works. Congrats for the eds choice – well deserved.
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent work as usual Roger!

I’d like to do a large carving like this sometime, but I don’t have any space to display it.
