This is a Custom 1911 Pistol Presentation Case that I made for my 1SG’s retirement from 22 years in the Army. It was my first big project in a couple of years due to work. I was able to incorporate some new techniques thanks to some overdue upgrades in my shop. This was my first use of dovetails, mortised hinges, and a rabbeted bottom. The biggest challenge was not the woodworking, but was using the spray adhesive to affix the fabric to the foam insert. Next time I will cut the dovetails before rabbeting the box walls to accommodate the bottom. That will prevent me from having to repair a section of the dovetails on each corner with putty.

Great job and nicely done dovetails. Your 1SG is going to really appreciate your fine work.

That is a nice tribute to the First Shirt. Hope he keeps it locked up in a secure place so he can pass it on.

Great looking gift. Another color for the background would allow the 45 and accessories to be more prominent.
