Here is a cutting board table that I built for mom, most of it was scraps peices to small use on a larger project. The woods I use was cedar, purpleheart, poplar, and maple for the shelf and top.

The pictures are enough to see some of the details. Very nice use of offcut materials. The purpleheart adds some interesting contrast to the piece.

Thanks for the post. I am sure that your mother adores the piece as it does look like it is getting a lot of use.

CJIII,

Thanks for the post. I, too, am a beginning woodworker and very much appreciate the skills you are showing already.

I like the confidence exhibited in the moniker “future cabinetmaker”!

You made great use of the wood. Especially with the top. Maple wears well, but still get cuts in it, so every once in a while you gotta sand it down for her and clean it up and soak it again with mineral oil. Good job. mike

That’s why we DON’T throw wood away. I have pieces that I’ve had in hand toward the can and I’m forced to put it back in the pile because I know that someday I will need that small piece of wood.
Your table looks great. Good job.
