When I decided to make this chest, I had already glued up the top and had intended to use it as a wall hanging, but it came out so perfect that it screamed chest lid.
The decision to use three woods on the exterior, (the chest uses 5 different woods altogether), was upon reflection a mistake. Two woods will be my limit in the future. I spent more time designing on the fly than building sometimes.
I set out without a plan when I built this, and I let the box grow out of my imagination taking care each step of the process to try and bring it all together.
I think it came together well and it is certainly unique.
My next box will be made from cherry and may or may not resemble a chest a bit more. At least the lid will be a chest type lid.
Thanks for looking. You guys are the best and with out some of you this wouldn’t be as good so thanks for all your continued advise.

Got it done! That’s really cool. The colors are very striking.

That’s a one-of-a-kind chest, Russell. Some great looking woods beautifully showcased.

Thanks Jim, I like the way the poly looks on the end grain. Next time I’ll concentrate on contiguous grain from board to board. Baby steps man.
