This project was part of a Vacation Bible School theme a few years ago. The director wanted an authentic English telephone box. Built this one with nothing but a single magazine picture as a guide.

Very cool! That a real nice conservation piece. Did you ever put a phone in it?

No real phone, couldn’t afford the long distance charges haha. After VBS, the children’s director left it in place, with post-it notes and sharpies. The kids write their prayers down and post them inside the phone box. What a neat idea!

Looks like the phone boxes I used to see in the old old days. Very nifty.

Randy,
Excellent project. As the son of a now-deceased Southern Baptist minister, I appreciate the obvious care and professional results you dedicated to a VBS effort.
I am also glad to see that today’s stormy weather in your area has apparently left you unscathed.

Randy,
This is a nice project. It was wonderful of you to give VBS this type of support. I am sure that it made an impact on the children.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks very authentic. Wish I had a buck for every 2 penny piece I put in one of those.

Great looking phone booth.
One of the things that have disappeared from this country.
The vandalism and the cell phone have done in most all outdoor phones.

Cool. That is great that you made it from only a picture. I have a hard time with that.

bet there would be a market for these in resturants etc, a place for patrons to use their cell phones!
or paint it blue, replace most of the glass with masonite, put a blue light on top and you have a police box or tardis for the Dr Who fans . . .

It does not look like the Doctor’s box, his time machine? <smile> That is what I always think of as a telephone booth :) .. i think I might watch to much TV.
DVB wow that bring back memories.

Great achievement Randy; making that from a single picture! The originals seem to be slowly disappearing here thanks to the ubiquitous mobile ‘phone.
Trivia: Hull in East Yorkshire is the only place in the UK where these boxes are not red. They’re painted cream.

Still some here in Blackpool, opposite the now closed general post office. For true authenticity you need that particular internal smell, which goes someway to explain the rapid popularity of mobile ‘phones in Britain.
