I originally started to make both a Chest of Drawers & a Dresser for my soon to be grand daughter. But time started to run out &, as the baby is due soon, I stopped working on the Chest of Drawers & decided to concentrate on the Dresser only. This way my daughter could have a place to put the new little one’s cloths in & a dressing table as soon as my grandchild arrives. The dresser is made to match a new baby crib that her paternal grand parents gifted her. The furniture has “wine bottle” legs & a white sprayed on finish. The wine bottle legs are made into the face frame & rear frame. I used the toy box that I made for Layla as a practice piece for matching the finish which has a clear acrylic top coat. The dresser is made of pine with birch plywood & wooden drawer slides on the drawer boxes. My daughter picked out pewter drawer pulls that I attached to the drawer fronts after attaching the fronts to the drawer boxes. A frame for the baby’s changing pad was made with a couple of long pockets to hold diapers, baby powder & such and was attached to the back of the dresser top with hinges so it could be lifted up easily to clean & dust under. As a final touch, floor glides were added to the bottom of the legs & felt pads were stuck under the changing pad frame to keep the frame from scratching the finish on the top. The carcass for the chest of drawers is already made so it’s time to get back to work on that piece of furniture.
