A co-worker of mine works on a concrete floor all day long. Most people know that standing on concrete is rough on the legs and knees. So my friend Don has had to start using a cane. Over the last several years we have been talking about wood working and carving. One day we talked about coming up with an idea of creating a unique cane. Don likes to play around with the local gambling boats, so we thought it might be cool to have a cane with large dice showing the number 7 on all four sides so this is what we came up with. The main portion of cane is oak. The dice are oak with walnut dowel rods. the handle is made of walnut with a mahogany ring under the handle. Relieve carving of dice in side of handle goes with the gambling theme, but also helps give a little bit gripping surface. I was not as pleased with the relief carving as I thought I would be, it still seems to give a unique feature to this project.
I might add that inside the cane is a 3/8” dia. steel rod for adding support. All pieces have been glued together with apoxy.

Beautiful cane Tom! I wouldn’t bet against anyone who carries that cane. It’s a real beauty.

Thanks for all the great comments. At one time Don and I talked about making it so the dice would spin. Could be another unique idea?
