I started on this end table, and stopped to start working on my Lowboy. I found a guy who sells huge pieces of lumber here in Houston. He had a 12/4 piece of curly maple that I resawed on my bandsaw, and made a bookmatched top, framed in that dark figured cherry!! The legs are tapered, the drawer is drawer lock bit construction. The draw supports, and guides are pocket screwed and glued. This is a very pretty end table, once again influenced by David Marks!
Revised: Here is the board that I used on the table top. It’s the front one. I still have the back one!!

all of your pieces are done very professionally. Do you sell them or give them to friends and family ?

Nice design, clean and sharp but stands up to be counted as one of the better end tables. Great workmenship and great wood selections. Just enough to stand out as a great end table that anyone would love to have.

Thanks guys!! Man I feel like a celebrity!! Well jjohn, I told myself that I would eventually sell some of my creations, but you know, it is so hard to let something go after spending so much time on it!! When my girlfriend first saw the Highboy completed, she couldn’t keep her hands off it!! I guess if she could’ve ran off with it, it would be in her apartment now!! Good thing it’s so big, and heavy!! I think my eye for show lumber is very sharp. I really like the way I match contrasting woods. Our house is slowly becoming my gallery!! I think I’m addicted to sawdust!!!

Wonderful table Matt. Again I love the wood combination. You did well on this one too.
Thanks for sharing.

that top looks incredible!
great work all around.
do you finish with tung oil like David Marks, or do you do something different? I’m a bit of a BLO fan myself.

David used General Finish’s Armor Seal. That is also what I use, although for smaller projects I do like tung oil. I’ve tried poly’s, but I don’t really get a good result from them. I like Armor Seal because of the ease of application, and if you make a mistake, it is easily repaired with 0000 steel wool, and wax, or another coat of Armor Seal. I am wanting to try Shellac. If anyone has any advice on mixing, and applying, I would love to hear!
