Few scraps of boards found here and there, was time to make some saw dust since it’s been awhile.
Adjustable Notebook side table. It extends horizontally and vertically and I used dovetail technique for rails. it can slide next to bed or couch.

Now that is something that will definetely pay for itself!!!
I can remember having one of the white plastic ones a few years back that broke and I was never able to replace it due to unable to find one!!
This would really be something I would like to try and make myself!!
Did you find plans for this? Or was this a idea from plastic that was born again wooden!!

No this was my idea based on one that I made years ago for my wife. no plans, I just make what I need based on what’s on my mind.
I just need to stain it to give it little more expensive look but don’t usually get good results staining pine since I don’t have patience for staining.

Wow I have a sketch of basicly the same thing. I think Iwill go ahead and build it. I will post it here if you dont mind. I was going to have the height set but I like the way yours adjust. May i borrow your idea ?

The trick is to improve on the idea :-)

I like this idea
I am wondering if I could offset the post to one side and still maintain enough balance?
Maybe an L shaped bottom base support.
Definitely something to think about

Nice! Looks useful. Does it tilt?

Top notch Project all in all a very useful TV tray or laptop stand, either way you use it. Way better than the older ones I have that fold. This design is much better due to being able to slide under the couch and bring right to your chest

Great job. This is something my wife and I have both wanted to (have me) build. We’ve never seen an adequate commercial model that wasn’t insultingly expensive.
I think the sliding dovetail idea is great.
The two changes I’d like to incorporate are:
1) a hinge or axle of some sort so the upper platform can tilt and be folded down for storage. Lock knob to tighten in place.
2) a small ledge at the end of the table.
Oh, as for staining—in my limited experience, (and you probably already know this) slathering the thing in that stain pre-treatment stuff works pretty well. I don’t know if you were getting the blotches like I have in the past, but this or other brands like it, works fairly well.
Thanks!

Thank you all…
As I said this is a second one I built and the idea was to make this out of what was laying around the trash bin and make it fast as in, just enough time for glue to dry half way. That’s why you see pin nails and couple of screws. I didn’t want to make it tilt because that is not what I needed. Ideas are byproduct of necessity so whatever design and ideas you come up with, It will be what you need most in any project. If I was thinking about TV dinners when I build this, I would’ve have called it TV dinner table :-)
As far as staining goes. Not sure I can waste the time to stain this. Especially since it’s made of pine, which to me is only slightly better than plywood. I dislike the booth of them to no end and i will not even deal with MD :-)
