Turned baby mug

My neighbor’s are about to have their first child. This weekend I decided to make them a small celebratory gift, a turned maple and walnut baby mug. Now I always love being able to use the lathe but for this project I also did some wood burning for the first time, and it will probably be the last because I did not enjoy the experience. I could not get the iron to move smoothly across the wood as it tended to try and follow the grain, which was very frustrating.

Thanks for the comments. The handle was simply attached with a little epoxy.
