This started out inspired by http://lumberjocks.com/projects/70598 by LJ DouginVa. But I fell short of his. It was a tougher build than I expected getting the lids lined up.
The body is maple with ash splines. The lids are red cedar. Once again I learned a few things on this. I will try this again.
Box is 16” long, 8” wide and 2-1/2” tall.
Thanks for looking

Boring box? I’d call it a very nice Men’s Valet box if it’s following the same line as DouginVa’s box. Nice work Monte, I like it alot very nice! I think I might attempt this for one of my next projects, I’m thinking something along the line of a bit taller, both lids false, a center tray to use as a key for opening the false lids, just a thought.

looks good, I bet the cedar lids impart a nice smell to whatever you place inside.

Not boring at all. I like its simplicity. It all works just fine IMO

Looks good to me – sometimes we can be our own worst critic – I don’t think that handmade items need to be absolutely perfect – it’s the little flaws that speak to the love that the maker put into the project

I like how you explore different style of boxes. More power to you.

Anytime you try something new and learn, it’s a good day. Finding it more challenging than expected kinda reminds me of the guy who said “Doing something the first time is tough. I guess that’s why dying is so hard”

Monte, I think this design has possibilities. The open center would make a nice area for wallet, keys, cell phone and the two lidded areas would be nice for spare change and charger.
I think I’d also consider making it deeper and shorter and rounding off more edges. The design is an excellent one. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Boring? “You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means”. Like BG, you’ve got some good design possibilities there. That, the rustic construction and an interesting wood combination makes it anything but boring.
