I built this cool little pencil box this week. The plan is from Woodworkers Journal (December). I saw one of these a few years ago and always wanted to build one. It was finished with a few coats of Watco. I resawed some Beech for the box, as I had it in the rack. I had never used Beech before, but had purchased it from Woodcraft a few months ago. The plan is pretty good and the parts all came out accurately. One of the last things to do is cut the angle in the top. The Woodslicers narrow kerf kept the end sanding minimal, as the top part of the box is now a little shorter than the bottom.
This was a pretty easy build and should make a nice gift for one of the grandkids.

Nice work. Whom ever receives this pencil box will be happy with it I’m sure.
I’ve always liked these boxes and have seen a few get built around here. This is by far one of the finer pencil boxes built, thanks for posting.

Brings back memories. My father had one from when he was a boy back around the 1920’s. I made several from that design. Nice job. I am sure you will be making more for the rest of the grandkids. Don

I remember having a wooden pencil box in elementary school … it’s great to see a ‘golden oldie’ have this kind of come back. Nice job Jumbojack!!
