My Fiance’s favorite color is purple and she picked out a chunk of wood from Woodcraft one day and left it with me to suprize her…Suprize!!! I broke it! One of the times when you wish you were wearing your face shield when you feel a bowl graze against your cheek as it flies by your head. Good thing I had eye protection.

I need to go buy some glue now…

Fun post – looks like you’ve been doing some turning! I’ve got to get to it…

Yeah…I may glue it back together and put it on my desk as a paperclip holder…i wasn’t that happy with it in the first place but I try to push through stuff like that because you never know what you’re going to end up with.

All is not lost. Cut out a nice oval and make her a neck pendant.

It passes the test.

1. It’s for her

2. It’s purple.

:)) Good luck

yeah…had that happen a coupl’a times. learned quick not to stand in the plane of rotation. Didn’t get hit but put a nice dent in the garage door above me. Looks great aside from that though. You do some really nice work.

Curious…did it start to chatter before it blew?

I hate when that happens.

Garyswood,

I had it chucked to my jumbo jaws just so I could turn the tenon off. I got a little too aggressive and the jaws weren’t tight enough. I was afraid to tighten them too much because the sides were pretty thin. I was just in a hurry and had the lathe going too fast I think…it was a stupid mistake after all that work.

Hi Steffen,

That is a bummer. I am sure that you will be forgiven since you weren’t hurt. Bowls can be replaced.

Thanks for the post. It was timely given the emphasis on safety that is currently going on.
