Here’s an interesting project. This is a pulpit (podium) for iPad. It’s made of reclaimed American Chestnut barn wood, steel, aluminum, and calf skin leather. The chestnut came from a barn we call our “Chestnut Barn” that we tore down in Pennsylvania. The patina on the surface was so nice and deep we just did a clear lacquer over it. I routed out the iPad cutaway with a CNC mill. I adhered calf skin leather to cushion the iPad by using contact cement. The steel is held to the base and the top with screws that I shortened and filed. He wanted to be able to rest books on it as well so we put a piece of remnant aluminum on there to fit. We gave the new steel a slight patina and then did a polyurethane. It was a fun project.
