Extending Dining Table Extending Dining Table Extending Dining Table Click the pictures to enlarge them

At long last I got to finally install the table I made in January to match the chairs.

The table will extend from 2.2m (86”) to 2.8m (110”) long, 1.2m (47”) wide and 0.75m (29 ½”) high. The table top is 38mm (1 ½”) thick

The table is made from European white Oak – All the timber is from the same tree (consecutive planks), which made colour matching (none) real easy.

The top is just sanded to P360, then two coats of Hard wax Oil, and Fiddes Mellow wax. There is no stain added, hence you can see the white stripes of the Sapwood.

The extension mechanism is a simple sliding dovetail construction 1.6m long (x2). Simple Male/Female metal locating pins.

The Legs and rails are made with Mortise and Tennon Joinery.

This project took about 85 hours to complete, which included the design work

More details on Dimensions and design can be seen on my web site

Beautiful table, Tony. That is quite a banquet table when it’s extended. Don’t let the cook put one of those big European roasted hogs in the middle, though, might get a little “sway backed”.

Hi Tony,

This is a beautiful table. It is a simple gorgeous design.

Well done. I really love the look of the room that it is in as well. I am a firm believer that you can’t have too much wood in a home.

Thanks for the post.

Beautiful work Tony! I really appreciate the nice cleans lines which, to me, really accentuate the top.

Thanks to all for the nice comments-

The room is not mine, but my a part of my customers “Summer House”, which is a new build – It gets it’s final inspection next week. I hope to be able to post some more pictures towards the end of this month, when the matching chairs will be brought into the house.

beautiful!!! I didnt see this when it came around origainally!!! how much did your customer consult with you on the design—-or did you have “free range” to design and build…it goes really well with the room…and boy that view…
