This is not my latest project, but actually the first from the winter of 2006. The church my son attended for Boy Scouts wanted a playhouse for the children and Tyler used that idea for his Eagle Scout project. At the time I could barely saw a straight line or nail 2 boards together but with a bit of help, Tyler and I completed the project. When we were finished, I took the scraps and made my workbench. Along with the tools I acquired for the project and a few more I picked up later, I finally found my new love of woodworking. Tyler and I both learned a great deal on this project. He is 14 in these photo’s and was 15 when he received Eagle Scout.

Bill, this is a wonderful story and a nice post.
Thanks for sharing.

As a Scoutmaster myself, this was well done. I have a Troop of about a dozen boys. Two of them have completed their Eagle and this project is very worthy of that honor. I will say that the award is more about “leading” a project than the project itself. Since he got it approved by the board, he must have really done a great job in learning the process of instructing those that helped. That is impressive to me. One of my Eagle Scouts tried very hard to have me and another leader take a woodworking project over for him. He caught on that we’d only do what he’d ask and pulled it off in the end. Your son should be proud.

I’m an Eagle scout myself. So I can appreciate the project, the journey, and the honor. Congratulations. To both of you.

Hey Bill, I have a 14 year old scout thinking about what he wants to do for his Eagle project. I showed him this idea for our church and he really got pumped about it. What I didn’t realize was that he wasn’t allowed to do a project for the church since the troop is chartered through the church. Forgot that rule when we turned it in for preapproval. Drats. We’re now trying to find another organization to do this for. They liked the idea so long as it didn’t benefit the Troop, Chartered Org., or his family. We have a couple scout friendly lumber sources that hopefully will come through for him as well as a Troop that is into the hand’s on things. Thanks for the idea.

This post brought back many memories from my Scouting days and my Eagle Scout project. I completed mine in 1980 so the memories do last a lifetime. I didn’t make anything as nice as this, but memoried just the same. Your son now has memoreis for a lifetime. You can be pround of your’s and his accomplishments.
