Nice looking board.

How did you sand the endgrain flat? that purpleheart is tuff stuff. I went nuts with my last one. Even with a drum sander, it gums up the paper.

Congrats on your first board, it gets easier as you go. I have made over 250 of them. Got 5 just getting the 8th coat of 50/50 salad bowl finish and mineral spirits.

my girlfriends dad called me crazy for doing this, but i did a little research online and i noticed a few guys using a planer. so i took my board down by a 64th per pass to get it all leveled out. there was some waves in it since i didnt have many clamps to use(foolish). there was a little tear out along the edges, but was expected. once i had it all flat, i ran a 100grit over it followed by a 180, then 320 and finally a 400. i am currently building a jig right now for the one im going to make this weekend. if you’d like i can post pictures after i am done of the jig/board as i am doing my glue ups and then give you the dimensions for the board?

Hey Mike that’s a great looking board, and I would definitely like to see the glue up clamp jig that you come up with.
