Heated Breakfast Bench

You know that you keep the house too cool when your children eat the breakfast sitting on the heat register. So I came up with this idea so they could be more comfortable eating breakfast while getting warm. The bench is made of cherry and often has two kids sitting on it.

Folks down south have no idea what that is, but I wish I had one when I grew up in New England!

My youngest used to eat her breakfast sitting in a sunbeam – and we lived in California, for crying out loud. Oh well, she still looks for a sunbeam to sit in – and she’s 32 now. Don’t just take pictures of the bench, take pictures of the kids sitting on it. They’ll be very precious in 20 years or so.

Looks like a solution to a problem that shouldn’t be. Growing up we had a peculiar type of furnace that only heated one room so I would sit in front of it to eat breakfast. My grandma only had a wood cook stove for heat. But in a house with central heating, I don’t see the point of keeping the house so cold that your kids have to literally sit above the register to eat.

Holy Mackerel Batman … I mean holy bench! Outstanding idea! Nothing better than warm happy kids.

In 1956 my parents bought their first house in Minnesota (it snows and gets cold there) the only heat in the whole downstairs was a space heater in the corner of the kitchen. That’s where my brother and I got dressed and ate breakfast before going to school.

What a lovely idea! Anything for the kids, of course.
