This is the project I made the compound miter fixture for. I’ll use the fixture for other things, but I wanted to see what kind of pattern it would yield if I glued 5 pieces of plywood up at 4 degrees and then cut it flat. I was not impressed with the pattern. It was not real distinctive and they corners did not match because of some slippage in the glue up fixture in the 4th picture. Oh well, live and learn. I would not have known if I had not tried it. Someone did buy one of the trivets at the sale on Saturday, though. They must have felt sorry for me!!
I did get to use my Longworth chuck for this one and it worked pretty good. I think a jam chuck will be faster for doing bowls, though.
They are made with 3/4 maple plywood and with a lacquer finish

You have been very busy Jim. Looks like the jig/sled worked great for the project.

I am not a big fan of plywood other than construction but you have shown me that even plywood can be made to be attractive.
Like someone else said you have been busy.

Tom I was sort of challenged by my friend in Australia to try it and the patterns you get from plywood when it is on the outside of a radius are really neat. These flat trivets are not a good example of how pretty it can be! Bowls and vases are the best!!

For an experiment, I think these are rather cool. Thanks for sharing this Jim. Did this project give you any new ideas?

Hi Mark. I think I will use the sled to make the roof for the bird feeder I have planned for the spring. it will be like an octagonal gazebo!

Hi Kiefer. I had to put that one away for a while . tomorrow I have to get back on the spoons I started. I just realized that I don’t like carving. It is time consuming and not as rewarding to me as turning a piece on the lathe. If my back did not start giving me problems after 3 hours, I could turn for 8 hours easily!.........Jim
