So I have been really wanting to build some geodetic domes to make light pendents and mostly for the heck of it. Now i got a few and cant bring my self to drill them for lights. Pretty easy build 15 equilateral triangles cut on the chop saw. Then I put a 20 degree bevel on the bench sander. It technically should be 18 degree bevel, but I found that the 20 made it nice and tight on the outside of the joints. Inside had a little gappage just filled it with glue. Assembled with glue, tape and some time.

Looks great! I have messed with geodesic domes since the mid 1970’s . Getting the joints to fit accurately is not easy. Congratulations!

Those are really neat!! I can see why you don’t want to drill holes in them. Nice project!....Jim

Not sure you noticed, but your photo assistant photo-bombed your shot… :-)

I love these shapes. There’s something about them that intrigues me. Maybe its the conglomeration of simple shapes (triangle) that create a complex shape (icosahedron) that approximates a simple shape (sphere). So cool! The closest I’ve ever come to creating one of these is sticking a bunch of toothpicks into a bunch of globs of hot glue.
