This is my second of what I hope to be many slimline pen. First pen didn’t turn out that great. I didn’t get the finish I wanted so my little lady gets that one. She likes it so that made me happy.
I really like the feel of this pen and I am a pen nut. Love a good writing pen and this one feels good in my hand. I have been thinking of making pens for some time now and I have plenty of scrap pieces of wood so why not use them and maybe make a few bucks to help buy the next tool I want or need.
If you don’t have aromatic red cedar in your area I can furnish you some blanks at a very low cost. BLanks will be 3/4×3/4×5 or 6 inches. Will let any LJ member have them for 25 cents each plus actual shipping cost to me. Be willing to trade for wood that I may not have in my area. That way no cost other than the shipping cost

Nice looking pen. I was wondering about using cedar. I have some aromatic cedar. I wonder if that would work.

I think Aromatic red cedar works great or it did for me. I know its a soft wood but not likely that a pen will take a beating so it should be okay. I think I used tung oil on this pen just to keep the salt from your fingers leaving any marks. Wasn’t looking for a high gloss finish. I like to keep the wood as natural as possible.
Like all projects time will tell how this works out. I have had to go back on several things because they didn’t hold up with weather or some other reason.
Thanks for looking and posting your comments

Beautiful pen Tom, well done. Never used Red Cedar, not available around here, but I have used the Canadian version Western Red Cedar, very soft but the aroma is to die for, love the timber.

That looks like Aurora Diamante fountain pen without diamonds. :) I meant to say it looks elegant and expensive.
