This is the second piece I was able to turn out of the Cedar log that was given to me. Another round box but this time I made it as a jewelry box. The little top part is to place your ring on. Should have made that a little smaller in diameter but this was a first for me and like everything I do I learn what not to do the next time.
Finding out working with end grain is a lot harder and almost impossible for me to get a good finish. With time maybe I will improve, hope so.
Started not to post this since I am not that happy with it but I think its good to share with others the problems that we run into working with different woods.
1. Try to stay away from end grain whenever possible.
2. Turning time is longer and harder when working with end grain or it is for me.
3. Hard to get a good finish with end grain or it is for me.
Thanks for looking and I am always open for any suggestion you may have to make things better for me.. I keep an open mind and always learning and hope to never stop learning. Its what keeps me going and wanting to do more.
