My folks put down walnut laminate flooring and they wanted a new cap on this knee wall. My Mom asked if I could do it without any nail or screw holes in the top to cover. This was the result.

The solution I came up with was to attach nails to an inner hardwood piece. To protect the top piece I shimmed it with sheet metal. Flipping the whole thing right side up and using a towel and a pine 4×4 a foot long I used a sledge hammer to tap it into the 2×4 on the cap top.

Might not have been the best solution but it worked.

I forgot to add the fact I screwed the hardwood (oak) center with nails in it to the bottom of the top cap piece.
