well as i had started posting some new box projects
these are more in that line
(seems like a production factory here)
these again are for some friends
that have given me help
and kindness along my life’s journey
the small ones are just that small
and are stretching my ability to work
in this scale (kudos to martyn who does this all the time)
in an attempt to learn new things and different processes
i have used each one as an opportunity to expand
my design and build abilities basically
‘to go where i have never been before’
while trying to spray a finish on the small ones
they almost blew of their stands
and gave me even more work to fix that
so i am using BLO and wax
not my preferred finish
but with many more in the works
i had to draw the line somewhere
my goal is to have all these gifts
out before the end of the world day
at which time i plan to read a good book
under my bed
the two small ones have a birdeye maple top
a gift from my bud jeff (jl7)
using it very sparingly to make it strech
as much as possible and small inlays
to enhance the wood
and not abuse it
thank you jeff
well for today that’s about it
thank you all for your great comments to my first “gift post”: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/73330
prayers for all in sandy storm path
be safe and enjoy !

Beautiful, David. The moon phase crescent and the last one (with your trade mark wave pattern) are very special.

My God, you are walking box factory. I enjoy looking your boxes and try to figure how you’ve done all those crazy details and patterns.

Very nice work. I like it. On the box with multiple woods in the sides, did you use a v cut and fold it up like Martin does to keep it all perfectly aligned?

More to come? Yikes – you a machine. I guess when you are in the mood, good things happen.
Very nice David. I really like them.

yes kevin
dado-ed the book matched sides/ends
(and glued in the banding)
and e-z mitered them
( if i had cut thru them
the saw kerf would have made the wavy lines mismatch
at the corners)
as you can see

two opposite corners ‘fold around’
and the two other ones ‘book match’ to each other
