My brother and his wife are expecting their second child in early December. They’ll soon have the million dollar family: mom, dad, daughter and son. Since I built a dresser/changing table for their daughter, I wanted to build one for #2, too. I wanted this one to be a little different so it’s built with solid walnut instead of cherry and a little chunkier design than the previous dresser. The webs are poplar, drawers are poplar pinned with walnut dowels. The top was pretty fun to make. I wanted as few glue lines as possible, so I chose my two best wide walnut boards. I planed them flat by hand so there would only be one glue line. Turned out really well. Overall size is 56” x 20” x 35”. Finish was 2 coats of dark walnut danish oil, followed by a wet sanded coat of oil, then 2 coats of shellac, and finally a coat of dark brown paste wax.
Now this lovingly crafted heirloom is ready for dirty diaper duty!
Thanks for looking.
