This box was inspired by the track of the same name on Pink Floyd’s album Dark Side of the Moon and the album’s cover picture. I have placed the moon central to the top, uniformly coloured as ‘There is no dark side in the moon really, as a matter of fact its all dark’.

Dimensions – 127mm diagonally x 80mm high (excluding base, 140mm diagonally x 7mm high).

Materials – Birch Veneer (dyed and natural), Birch Ply (dyed), Sycamore (dyed) and MDF.

Adhesives – PVA and CA

Finish – Spirit based coloured and black wood dye, Spray satin Acrylic Lacquer.

The main body of the box is 2.5mm MDF veneered both sides, total thickness 3.5mm. The black pillars are 3mm thick.

Construction is blogged, starting, here

you da boxologist!! I love the colors, and the shape/design. I think it might be cool to have a light inside and the color sections to be thin & the color shimmer through. Get right on that, would ya?? HAAAAA HAAA
thanks for sharing your genius box making.

Great work! Your next task is to see what happens when you start the album after the third roar the MGM Lion makes before the start of “The Wizard of Oz” while holding this in your lap.

Very elegant Martyn.
Makes me think of a very high end poker chip rack.
The colors came out perfectly.

Martyn

Your vision and interpretation for a project is intriguing. Your ability to transform the vision into reality is impressive. Your willingness to share your knowledge with others is pure selflessness.

Thanks for being a LumberJock,
