Still playing around with some sculpted wood. I have a few pieces I plan on taking to my next three upcoming shows so i can see what type of response I get.
This piece is 12×22 and made from a piece of 6/4 walnut. I finished it with spray can lacquer. I was going to use a BLO finish with waxing but I was not sure if I would have enough drying time before leaving for Florida this Wednesday.

People’s tastes are so hard to figure..personally i like it very much..all you can do is put it out there & see if the carving gods like you!! :-)

Very reminiscent of Lois Ventura’s bandsaw box designs…

Wood itself is an art of nature and when it is threated in this way by skilled craftsman it is also art to admire.

Thank you everyone…! New ideas and designs are always enjoyable for me because they get the imagination and creative juices flowing.
michelletwo…you are so right about about peoples tastes being hard to figure out. All I can do is create what I feel and what flows from inside of me and hope someone likes what I do. So far so good.

degoose…I have never seen Lois Venturas work but she must make some huge bandsaw boxes

Bearpie…I will be in Pensecola at the Great Gulf Coast Art Fest. I was not aware of it until it was referred to me by a customer at the New Orleans Jazzfest.

Andy…you read my thoughts…when I added the plugs the night stars were in my mind. Where I live there are no streetlights and I really like to sit outside late at night after closing up the shop and stare at the stars.

Ivan…I agree…sometimes I see such beauty in the grain patterns of certain pieces of wood I feel like just sanding and framing it without doing anything else…but then I would not be putting my personal creativeness into it.

A1Jim…I guess all the waves are an influence from my years in the boat renovation business. It is ironical because I also get seasick easily.
