My neighbor was kind enough to give me a huge chunk of walnut from his uncle’s farm. I tried to return the favor and made this box for his wife. The top cap and splines were made out of maple scraps. The bottom of the box & tray are aromatic cedar.
I cut & planed the rabbitts for the sliding tray by hand…not a big deal for most of the woodworkers on this site but a first for me. I pinned the joints w/ 1/8” dowels.
I finished w/5 coats of shellac & rubbed out with 0000 steel wool and clear paste wax.

One of the best things about woodworking is to share your work and enjoy being appreciated for your talents. I’m sure that your neighbour felt you would do his gift of that fine wood justice, and indeed you did… Very nice workmanship. Nice and clean design. Well done.
