Just in time to scare the little ones.
The wand is ash, with some jel stain, India ink and a brass tip. 13” long.
Basswoods heads of various sizes. They are a snug fit to easily swap heads. First turned to rough shape and drilled on the lathe, then carved and painted. Facial features are burned in. The skull was roughed out on the bandsaw, then finished in the carving holder.
I’m showing my holder to do the carving. A piece of broomstick, with a hole drilled through it,a hanger bolt and nut, and a base piece. I use round bases to put in a lathe chuck, but you can make them square to hold in a vise. Drill 2 centered holes in your carving workpiece, 1 for the hanger bolt and 1 for the broomstick.
