I hated the look of our microwave just sitting on our counter. We couldn’t really put anything on top of it. We needed a place for the placemats, too. So I built this open cabinet recently from SA Mahogany. Many firsts were accomplished – gluing up panels, hand planing, dovetails, through mortises, and of course, “mistake repair”. The dovetails were all over the place! Just bought a real DT saw, and can’t wait to replace all of the drawers in the house’s built-ins.
cheers

One way to upgrade the kitchen without ripping everything out…
I’m with you on replacing the drawers and cabinet doors, lots to get done first though.

looks great from here, much better than a microwave to look at. Congrats!

You just might be a lumberjock when you buy a dovetail saw just so you can replace all the drawers in your house.

Looks real good to me. I like the through tenons for the bottom shelf.

In my previous house. We had 2 microwaves – one built in and the other on a counter. I built a shelf in the lower cabinet that pulled out and put the second microwave there. Out of sight.
Your solution gives it an upgraded appearance.

That really dresses up the microwave. Nice job.
