Curly Koa Desk Set

A fancy desk set with a 10-3/4” long twist pen in a brass funnel and brass posts to hold business cards or Post-It Notes. The Curly Koa base is 9” x 2” x 1” thick. I had a bit of trouble with this long slender pen vibrating on the mandrel and it came out twisting off-center. My solution was to hand sand the mating center edges and substitute a smaller center band, which worked admirably well. Whew, what a relief! I’m still waiting for the day I can turn something beginning to end without having to ‘fix’ something!

The world loves a fixer, Barb. Relish in it.

Very elegant. That Koa looks great too.

It all looks gr8. I think being able to fix things when they happen is all a part of woodworking. If we were all perfect, we all be liers. :)

Hi Barb ,if you got those BC holders from Rockler , they are actually gold plated , unless they changed the recipe from the ones I bought from them : )
Very nice set , Barb : )

Maybe you’re right, Dusty. I hadn’t thought that, but the packaging didn’t say, and I’d forgotten the catalog listing. These are from PSI, but are probably the same product. It does look different than the brass funnel; moreso in the photo than it does in hand.

Whatever these holders are made from, the fit with that curly Koa is perfect to my eye. Wonderful job, lady! :)

That’s a really nice looking set Barb! Does anybody ever write letters anymore?!! At any rate this will look divine … even if just used for jotting down notes!

That looks great, Barb.

Curly Koa is a beautiful wood. I have a big stash of curly koa veneer I’m saving for something special. Don’t know what that is just yet, though.

We are our own worst critic. I don’t think that any of us build a project with out something that needs some sort of fix … that is why we do it.
Lovely and elegant desk set; a project well done.
