I broke my cardinal rule with this project by planning on coloring the wood from the beginning. Hard maple was just a little too light, but the function and price of the 5/4 stock made it the right choice. I took great care to grain-match the front drawers, but the tinted shellac mostly covered this detail – still a good lesson for future projects. Covered breadboard ends with floating dowels, four drawers, and a couple of extension wings, and there you have it. All comments/critiques/questions welcome.
