My brother-in-law began to collect Zippo lighters with US Navy Ships on them many years ago when several members of my family were in the United States Navy, including his son. With not place to display the lighters few of them always managed to become lost or escape in the pocket of a guest who absent-mindedly place it in the pocket after use. So I built this wall display out of walnut with a birch back panel stained to a lighter shade of brown for contrast. The front is Lexan and slides out to the top to make accessing the lighters easy. He has it displayed in his Florida retirement home and still enjoys collecting Navy Zippos.

Great display case. I like the way you finished the back panel so lighters show up better. Love the photo.

Terry,
This is a beautiful display case. Walnut is such a gorgeous wood. You made a nice choice in using it for the case.
Great photography too.

well done. Looks like there is plenty of room for more lighters. I bet it’s not a problem to guess what he gets for Christmas presents.

Good looking display case. Did you light all those zippos at once to get that red glow in the sky?

Nice job on the display. God idea. I am still in the navy and have seen that view in the photograph for 20 years. I never get tired of it.

That’s a nice display case and he has room to grow. Or did all of his friends remove most of his collection.

No. he probably lost a dozen or so over the years, but we still try to stock him up. My older brother is a Ships Superentendant in HI and he picks the odd Zippo up for him. I also have a young cousin who is starting a career in the Navy and he is going to contribute. So he ought to be able to fill it up.
