This is a box that I made for my pastor. The box is made from figured red maple and redheart. The lining is a faux suede. The inside of the lid is woodburned. Keyed miters are also redheart. Finish is shellac.

Thanks for looking!

Nice box. Beautiful wood with an excellent finish. That wooden catch is pretty crafty!

Sharp box! Simple but eligant. Where did you get the clasp? How is the redheart set into the top? is it set into a rabbit?

Thanks for the comments. The finish is just shellac in a 1# cut with dilute paste wax over the final coat. A little tricky keeping color from bleeding from the redheart to the maple lid edges. I used masking tape to try to reduce the bleed but still had to sand out the lid edges a little bit.

In retrospect I would have French polished it, but hadn’t tried that at the time I made this box.
