Curved Lid Box

This was an experiment that had too many features – curved lid, through tenons, no a well thought out design. I should have had the tenons come through the front rather than the sides; curved lid is OK but could be better. First attempt(s) on the tenons I blew out the ends on about 5 or 6 pieces. Finally moved it back a little and gave me more beef and it didn’t blow out. Fortunately you can’t see all the gaffs in the photo but it was a fun try. Next one will be better.

The lid is darker in person and doesn’t clash as much as in the photo. Not as dark as the Mahogany but more of a soft golden color. I guess the flash washed it out.

About 9” long x 6” deep x 4” tall. Box is Honduran Mahogany and lid is Sycamore. Finish is my favorite, BLO and Shellac.

Looks pretty cool. Only rounded lid I have had was from it warping :-0

Jim I like it

I think the design has great potential.

One correction to my post. It was the mortises that blew out, not the tenons.
