I turned out another batch of 25 Freedom Pens and got them ready to mail back to the project administrators.

These are a mix of cherry, hickory, mahogany, and maple finished with O.B.’s Shine Juice.

BTW … if anyone is interested, drop a note to Capt Eddie Castelin ( and tell him you want to sign up! With Veteran’s Day 2012 just a few weeks away, now would be a great time to let someone in uniform know you appreciate what they are doing for us!

A Great and Worthy cause…... How well does the OB juice hold up?

Gshepherd—Not sure … I just started using it a little more than a year ago. Pens I turned then look the same … I suppose it depends on conditions and use.

O.B.’s Shine Juice is BLO and shellac, so it may not be as durable as other finishes. On the plus side, it is fast, cheap, and produces a nice shine, especially on the hickory pens.

I apply it with a pad made of a quarter sheet of a paper towel folded 4 times. With the lathe running at 4000rpm, I know when to quit when my built-in temperature sensors (fingers) can’t hang on to the pad anymore!

Very nice Gerry…

You are ‘turning’ into a real pen maker! LOL

Thank you.

Those look might fine Gerry.
I run a program called ServicePens similar to Freedom Pens and it’s folks like you who make it work.
Thank you for doing this.
