I’m finally posting the bed made for my daughter. It’s mostly black walnut with some rock maple and jatoba. The bed is floating. If you look at the video you’ll see the shadow cast by the bed that appears to be about 5 inches off the ground. It is ringed by LED lighting that has a remote control to strobe, flash, or blend light colors. The bed features a multi wood headboard with oriental accent on the top and a carving of an iris in walnut in the center panel. The platform ‘wings’ feature widened a tray routed depression near the head of the bed. You can see the entire blog of the build here.
This was a complex build for me and my first carving experience. All in all it came out pretty nicely I think.

That is nice in so many levels
Design, finish wood selection and
the lighting.
I’m looking at building a platform bed so all
inspiration is great.

I have been anxiously awaiting the pics of the finished project with the lights on. It was worth the wait! Just outstanding. I have found 3 candidates for ‘dad of the year’ in projects posted tonight! How is the finger?

gfadvm,
We’re fighting for the finger. It was determined that it was a splinter that started the problem. I’m on an antibiotic regimen through a picc line in my heart to fight it. the prognosis is that either the infection will be stemmed and the bone might regenerate or if not, an amputation will be needed. Might be till the end of the year till all is known for sure. Till then most activity, including the shop is on hold. Interestingly I made a case for my finger with this web page. It had the effect of mobilizing the medical people to try and save it. All on the page I either made or music I play…. some of these activities needs all fingers.
Thanks for inquiring and the kind comments about the bed.

Thanks for the finger update and keep me posted. Its a sad fact, but you really have to actively manage your medical care as too many Drs. seem to be interested only in the $.

Being proactive is right. I learned that long ago.. Be assertive and have no regrets later no matter how it goes.
and… Holy Sh-t.. I’m hanging in the top three for awhile. Now how the heck did that happen? What nuance of the secret formula put me there. Mysteries of the LJ universe!
