This was turned from red elm. It is 3” tall by 8” wide and has a wipe-on poly finish.

Trifern,

This is another beautiful bowl. You are getting good at these turnings. And I can guess that you are having fun doing them as well.

Keep them coming. I am enjoying seeing these.

first word that came to me upon seeing this was “pretty”...which I dont use very much…but the grain and the shine really look good…

Hello,

Very nice bowl… :-) Elm is one of my favorite timbers to work with and is one of the five primary timbers I use for my production bowls (Elm, White Ash, Mesquite, Sycamore and Pecan-crete).

Most of the Elm I turn is either Winged, or American. On occasion, I have also turned some Green Elm. One of the reasons I like Elm so much is that when it’s polished, the grain reveals a very beautiful herringbone pattern that begs to be touched.

I have a large amount of spalted American Elm drying in my studio at the moment. This tree measured 38” at the ground and was 46 years old when it had to be taken down due to storm damage. I can’t wait to begin finishing some projects with it this summer. Take care and all the best to you and yours!

Steve
