Completed in 1973. This walnut duck was my first ever woodworking project. It was the standard project for seventh-grade shop class. I dropped it somewhere in the building process and broke part of the tail. I filed it to a new shape…so much for an “A.” I’ve dropped and “modified” may other pieces and parts since then…

I also made a pair just like them in my 7th grade shop class. Funny i asked my wife last night if she knew where they were at in the attic..

Yeah, my brother is 10 years younger and he made the same duck. They don’t offer shop classes these days. I fear we may be like the dinosaurs. Even at 50, I’m probably a pretty young woodworker. I sold my old lathe over Craigslist and they fellow who picked it up was probably about 30 years old. He jokingly said the average age of woodworkers is about 100…ouch!
I was unable to pass much of it to my boys. They weren’t interested. However, my younger son and I built a 12’ mini ski boat out of douglas fir and plywood back in 2008.
