One of my first projects (that is still in existence) was these basic shelves. Made from ultra-cheap 3/4” plywood, they are rough to say the least. If you look closely, pretty much none of the sides, top or bottom are actually straight because the plywood was bowed fairly heavily. That’s cheap plywood for ya. The side rails were some 1” pine molding that I scrounged. All held together with drywall screws. Not pretty, but functional.
